The moated castle, with its castle and moat, was built in the mid-13th century. The covered foundations give an idea of the dimensions of the complex, which has undergone many transformations. The old manor house (documented since 1591), with its multi-story half-timbered structure on a fieldstone foundation, has been preserved to this day. Other features include enchanted towers and parts of the moat and wall. The estate is now used as a holiday resort, and behind the castle is a game reserve (Hirschgarten).

The more than three-kilometer-long Rangenbach River feeds a series of pretty fish ponds here before flowing into the Hörsel River near Stedtfeld. Even without a fishing rod, it's a lovely place to linger.
