Someone must be found, it's such a shame that this castle hasn't found a loving owner for 26 years now.

From the Nessetal cycle path near Wenigenlupnitz you have a wonderful view over the wide countryside all the way to the Wartburg near Eisenach.

The three-winged baroque palace (now an architectural and garden monument) was built between 1677 and 1689 and a spacious French-style garden was laid out. For over 100 years, this rural enclave served the Dukes of Gotha as a summer residence and pleasure palace. They spent their summer holidays here and celebrated their summer festivals here. From the 19th century onwards, the palace was increasingly neglected. In the 20th century, the former jewel of ducal country residences was converted into a reformatory, youth education centre and, until the mid-1990s, a youth work camp. Since then, the palace has stood empty and is not open to the public. A renovation and usage concept is currently being worked on. Only the outside area is accessible. The castle, built around 1547, was built in the Renaissance style and was renovated in 2003 and converted into a barrier-free hotel. The castle was owned by the von Wangenheim family from its construction until 1844.

High above the town of Waltershausen and visible from afar, Tenneberg Castle sits enthroned on the 400 m high castle hill. Thuringian landgraves built the former castle with its horseshoe-shaped floor plan at the end of the 12th century. Over the centuries, Tenneberg has seen many lords and fundamental renovations. It was the court and administrative seat, hunting lodge and summer residence of the Gotha dukes as well as the military center of the former Tenneberg district. Its architecture primarily reflects the architectural styles of the Renaissance and the Baroque. Three baroque rooms are preserved today, of which the ballroom with paintings by the Gotha court painter Johann Heinrich Ritter is the most magnificent. The romantic, arcade-decorated small castle courtyard with the castle café is particularly attractive. Today, the castle is actually a large local history museum, which is known far beyond the country's borders, above all for its extensive doll exhibition.
