Ascent to the small Golden Rock (named after the much more famous and spectacular Golden Rock in Myanmar). While the pagoda below appears freshly renovated, the stairs and the shrines on the mountain are somewhat neglected and deserted.

A loud, bustling, authentic market in Mae Sot, run almost exclusively by traders of Burmese origin. Organized chaos!

Nice cafe on the main road with a good . If you want food, the owner can order from a nearby restaurant (noodles, pad krapow, omelette etc)

To find the campsite, turn right off the main road after the grocery store and then take the immediate right and follow the road. (If you go straight it will take you to the Fong homestay which is a different site)

Campsite with grassy pitches, loo/ shower block, seating and nice view over the hillside. Run by the lovely Jang who also owns a small supermarket on the Main Street. 200baht for two people and one tent. We rang when we arrived and Jang opened up the loos for us. No restaurant in the immediate village

Because it's really awesome. Short but you feel like you're in the middle of rural Thailand. Careful of sharp rocks. Flat tires were had.

This road leads to Khunyam resort, a nice place with a friendly owner to spend the night during the Mae Hong Son loop.

Fantastic view from the bridge over the Thai landscape, filled with rice paddy hills and a clear flowing river.
