Volkswagen Arena The Volkswagen Arena is the football stadium of the men's Bundesliga team VfL Wolfsburg. It opened in autumn 2002 and has space for around 30,000 spectators. Construction took 18 months and cost 53 million euros. The first game in the Volkswagen Arena was played between VfL Wolfsburg and VfB Stuttgart. The club wanted to use the Volkswagen Arena to strengthen its international ambitions, particularly with regard to the Champions League. History From 1954 to 1957, the boathouse of the Wolfsburg Canoe Club was built north of the Mittelland Canal; it was later expanded several times.
