always along the Schwarza

The path here leads through a deeply cut valley with some very steep rocky cliffs. Sometimes you can also see the so-called whirlpools in the riverbed. These are round depressions in the slate rock that have been "ground" by the Schwarza over thousands of years with stones and rubble. They are protected as natural monuments because they are very rare.

The road has a very good surface and is not heavily used. Besides, nature is beautiful. You always drive along the river. In summer the trees provide shade and it is not so hot.

The Schwarzatal is really beautiful, especially when it comes to hiking. Unfortunately, the traffic road also runs along the Schwarza. The traffic noise disturbs the whole thing a bit.

The wild and romantic, approx. 53 km long Schwarzatal is a deeply cut Kerbtal on the northern edge of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. It belongs in its entirety to the newly created "Thuringian Forest" nature park.
