The castle site is essentially preserved as a flat plateau. The remains of a well are the most obvious indication of the former castle. Later, the site served as the garden of a children's home, as the information panel reveals.

9月 8, 2025, Ruins of Neu-Bolanden Castle

Not much remains of the spur castle. But the remaining walls, along with the view, give the place a certain flair. Neu-Bolanden Castle is now a cultural monument.

Below the castle ruins there is a small rest area with a table, which can be reached via a small staircase.

First mentioned in 1258, a hilltop castle was built here In 1525, during the Peasants' War, it was plundered and burned down In 1689, during the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed again and in 1822, all but a few remains were demolished

Found on the information sign of the Bolander Heimatverein e.V.: Werner II, who was probably primarily responsible for the construction of this castle, was the most powerful ministerial of Emperor Barbarossa (and friend of Hildegard von Bingen). Emperor Friedrich II appointed him Imperial Chamberlain (the office was passed down in the family). At the time, this castle was obviously one of the most important and powerful in the country, but not much of that can be seen today. But the view from the remains of the walls of Bolanden and the Donnersberg is very pretty, and here the fox and the hare actually say goodnight to each other! We saw the hare, and the fox's droppings. The insects and birds are more eager to show off, and you can observe them up close in the wildflower meadows and orchards.

Nice little town with few bike paths. But in the pedestrian zone you can ride a bike (walking speed).

Only suitable for Burgstall fans. Not easy to climb (without a rope ;-). Consists of the castle hill without remains of walls with a sunken inner surface and ring wall, remains of a corner wall (tower) of a wall can be seen to the south-east. On the mountain side a huge ditch has been deepened... all the treasures that have probably been tumbled in from the castle... Down on the hiking trail the former outer bailey as a plateau with a bench and a view of the town that has meanwhile become very green. Like I said: only for castle fans. ;-)

Kirchheimbolanden also called Kibo is the district town of the Donnersbergkreis. There are ice cream parlors and the Café Enkler, which invites you to linger. Several bike paths lead in different directions here

history Nothing is known about the exact period when the castle was built. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1276 when the complex passed to his daughter Lukardis after the death of Philip V von Bolanden. Thereafter, further mentions were always made in connection with a change of ownership, so the castle came into the possession of King Albrecht von Habsburg between 1304 and 1308 through an exchange for the Gleichen Castle, in 1321 King Friedrich the Handsome locum Wildenstein enfeoffed to Count Philipp von Sponheim- Dannenfels and finally in 1328 she became an afterfief of the Counts of Leiningen. Presumably it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War (1618–1648). In 1657 the castle was already described as a ruin. In 1938 the ruin was owned by the municipality of Albisheim. Excavations took place in 1963, during which crossbow bolts, arrow and spearheads as well as a Romanesque key were found. Today the castle is located in the Dannenfels district. Somehow I wasn't sure where the ruin was - but according to Komoot and the Internet, it is probably the village garden. A more specific billboard would have been nice

Is this really all that's left of the Thannenfels ruins? Then there's not much left!

Neu Baumburg Castle, also known as Neu-Bamberg, Neubamberg, is the ruin of a hilltop castle above the municipality of Neu-Bamberg in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The castle was built by the Raugrafen around 1253, mentioned in 1253 as "Novum castrum apud Sarlesheim" and in 1283 was owned by Raugrafen Heinrich II. Von Neuenbaumburg, son of Raugraf Heinrich I. On April 12, 1338 half of the castle and the village were given to Archbishop Heinrich III by the Raugrafen for 1,300 pounds of Heller. pledged by Mainz and on March 11, 1419, Archbishop Johann II of Mainz and Count Johann V of Sponheim-Starkenburg share the inner castle. In 1668 the castle was destroyed by the Elector Karl Ludwig von der Pfalz. After 1970, extensive restorations took place with partial walling up of the ruins. The castle complex consists of an irregularly rectangular core castle in the north-west and the lower outer bailey on the west side. To the east of the core facility is the Catholic Church of St. Dionysius, which partly goes back to the medieval castle chapel.

The remains of the wall are clearly visible, including a part of the castle wall (?) On which you can inspect the ruins. The former well is covered with a grille to be on the safe side and there is a great view from the plateau facing the valley. There is more to see than many other ruins.

The stairs lead the hikers from the village of Bolanden up to the castle. It is very narrow and very steep. I would say only suitable for people with a head for heights. You can't even carry your bike up safely. I looked for a way across the fields because I was on the mountain bike
