7月 9, 2025, Rutsch Shelter at the Confluence of Eichelbach and Baybach
A rest area with a shelter and other picnic areas—especially suitable for families. Here, you can play in and around the Baybach stream when the weather's nice.

The "Rutsch" (rock) is a wonderful resting place in the Baybachtal and, especially in summer, a kind of water playground.

Beautiful shelter with benches all around, but unfortunately no table. There is also a nice lounger next to it.

Nice hut with a place to rest. But you can't go into the hut!

I was there on a Saturday in July and found this beautiful place eerie and very lonely. Update March 2024: In the meantime I have come here so often on numerous hikes that the place has completely lost its horror for me. However, I find the path along the Baybach to and from the “Rutsch” nicer than the actual rest area.

The refuge is right on the Schinderhannes cycle path (38km), which is crossed here by the "Traumschleifchen Baybachquellen". "The Schinderhannes cycle path in the Hunsrück is one of the longest cycle paths in Germany that runs consistently along a railway line. From Emmelshausen, which is already 450 m above sea level, the former railway line of the Hunsrück railway takes us without much effort to an altitude of over 480 m and past the beautiful old town of Kastellaun with its castle. After a short ascent, it goes down to Simmern, which is only 335 m above sea level. The history of this region, in which the robber "Schinderhannes" was up to mischief at the time of Napoleon, gave the cycle path its name. The Schinderhannes cycle path offers a traffic-free ride through the forests and heights of the Hunsrück with views over the wide mountain landscape. There are places to eat and stay overnight in the villages, which are not too far apart." http://www.bahntrassenradwege.de/index.php?page=schinderhannes-radweg

At the end of 2022, a "wobbly bridge" was added as an optional crossing, on which you can climb over freely suspended timber.

Located in the middle of the forest there is a very old pond system. The small pond "bell raft" with former forest workers shelter was built in the thirties the operation of a quarry. The ones used from the quarry Stones were used to expand the network of paths in the "Binnenberg" area used. The dam of the pond was made with the rest of the excavation material piled up. A legend tells that Emperor Napoleon was nearby the hut on the Klingelfloß when crossing the Hunsrück in front of you Storm protection should have sought.

Niederburg community part 2 Today Niederburg has around 680 inhabitants in the "Upper Middle Rhine Valley" area of the world. Many residents work in authorities or companies in Koblenz or in the Mainz area. The clubs (Sportverein Blau-Weiß Niederburg, Church Choir Cäcilie, Fanfare Corps Rot-Weiß, Verein für Heimatpflege, Schebbe cap, theater group Dastobi) ensure that there is always something going on in Niederburg for children as well as adults and seniors. An important meeting point is the generation house, which was converted from the old school and the village community center, modernized and completed in 2014. The Catholic “Parish of St. Stephen” also makes its contribution to the community. Before Corpus Christi day, for example, B. many volunteers with to prepare a beautiful flower carpet and altars for the Lord God during the procession. There are a few handicraft businesses, guesthouses are available for vacationers, as is an extensive network of hiking trails: part-time farmers ensure that fields and meadows (including sheep) are kept in order and managed. But cyclists are not neglected either. It is 3 km to the train station, 3 km to the ship landing stage on the Rhine and 8 km to the A61. www.niederburg.de Source: Text information board

Niederburg community part 1 A description of the still valid border course from northeast to southwest comes from the year 820, from the "Prümer Urbar" (list of goods of the former Benedictine abbey Prüm). This was later also the border between the Electorate of Trier and the County of Katzenelnbogen (later Hesse). In the “Prümer Urbar” the tip stone (“hoavelisa”), today's Lützelbach (“uu (w) inbach”) and the Niederbach (“buocha rivuolo”) are mentioned, which is popularly called “Bubach”. In 1256 the town Niederburg was mentioned for the first time in connection with the Eberbach monastery. And what was it about? About vineyards, of course! The Rheinhöhengemeinde Niederburg developed well. The Elector of Trier, Baldwin of Luxembourg, was able to expand his power base here against the Free Imperial City of Oberwesel. He was supported by Emperor Heinrich VIl, his brother. Balduin and his successors had a "castle" built in Niederburg, the remains of which are still easily recognizable today - as far as they have not been built up. In 1388/1389, under Elector Werner von Falkenstein, the so-called “Wesel War” was waged from Niederburg, particularly from “Klüppelberg” - above Oberwesel. Werner von Falkenstein is said to have spent some time in Niederburg Castle. In this war there were dead and injured on both sides. Niederburg was released from belonging to Oberwesel and received city rights in return for a high tax. In a census in 1563 in the Electorate of Trier, Niederburg was the largest town in the region after Oberwesel. It stayed that way until the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). In the Thirty Years' War and in the Palatinate War of Succession from 1688 to 1697 Niederburg “suffered” badly, the number of inhabitants fell from 230 to 130. Niederburg slowly recovered in the 18th century. The population increased again despite illness, bad weather and hunger. Source: Text information board

It's really just a short climb. And if you go slowly, you can manage it well even for older semesters.
