A detour to the Kraftstein ruins is definitely worth it. There is a small model of the castle, an information board, a bench and even a small remnant of the wall. The further descent is actually not worth it (see Turbo dated December 27, 2022).

Dotternhausen Castle, also known as Dotternhausen Castle or Cotta'sches Schloss, is a former castle and later palace on Schloßstrasse in the northeast of the village of Dotternhausen in the Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg. The castle is one of the village's landmarks. It is now privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside. The noble lords of Dotternhausen appeared in Dotternhausen between 1228 and 1314 in the entourage of various counts, which indicates that the castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century. In the 13th century the Maier von Dotternhausen were also mentioned. The castle was built in 1527 by Hans von Stotzingen. Austria, from 1666 the Jesuit college in Rottenburg and in 1789 the imperial counts Ernst and Ferdinand von Bissingen-Nippenburg are named as further owners. In 1814 the publisher Friedrich von Cotta bought the castle. Thanks to the contemporary writers Goethe, Schiller, Humboldt and Herder, he became one of the best-known publicists of his time. His son Georg von Cotta, whose center of life was the Dotternhausen estate, implemented his plans for the Plettenberg rule in Dotternhausen after the abolition of serfdom was planned by the Württemberg reform king Wilhelm in 1818. In 1821 Georg took over his father's publishing house. In 1860 the castle was renovated in the historicist style. The two-story building, the main structure of which has a gable roof and crenellated gables, is adjoined by an English-style castle park between the castle wall and Katzenbach. Zimmern unter der Burg is a municipality in the Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg (Germany). The municipal area belongs to the Oberes Schlichemtal recreation area. The place was mentioned around 1275 as Zimbern (timbered building). Later also Zerbrochen Zimmern or Brochenzimmern and Zimmern im Löchlin. Since around 1600, mainly rooms “under the castle” coat of arms Blazon: Shield divided with three central rising peaks of silver (white) and red. Around 1930, the community included a naturalistic representation of a castle standing on a high rock in a shield-shaped frame in its official seal. Although the Stuttgart Archives Directorate suggested colors for this coat of arms on November 27, 1933, it was not awarded. After the Second World War, the community took over the family coat of arms of the extinct Counts of Sulz, under whose rule it had been in the Middle Ages. The coat of arms was awarded by the Württemberg-Hohenzollern Ministry of the Interior on June 8, 1949, and the flag by the district office on March 29, 1982. It's not really worth scrambling down to the wall on the steep, (when wet) very slippery path. You can only see from above where the small model is
