A great day-trip restaurant with delicious food and drinks. Beautiful views over the fields (in the Weilerbach/Mackenbach area). Easily accessible via the bike path between Weilerbach and Schwedelbach.

The Ottilienquelle spring was created in 1894 by Johann Baptist Moser and named in honor of his wife and daughter. It is located on an old Philippsgrube mine tunnel and is now a popular resting place. The current shelter dates from 1977.

This lovingly designed information panel tells the story of the Ottilienquelle spring's origins, construction, and transformation – a traditional rest stop in the Potzberg region, once of great importance to hikers, pilgrims, and working-class families. 📍 Tip: The shady spot with its bench and canopy is perfect for a longer reading break – a refreshing stop, especially on hot days.

📝 The Ottilien Spring is located in the "Wildfrauenloch" (Wild Woman's Hole) in the municipality of Rutsweiler am Glan, below the Schwarzenkopf mountain. First mentioned in 1303, it was captured in 1894 by forestry assessor Johann Baptist Moser and equipped with a well. The water from the tunnel spring once shot up to seven meters high in a fountain-like manner. The name "Ottilien Spring" probably originates from Moser's wife and daughter. Today, the spring is a popular resting place for hikers. 💡 Tip: Ideal for a break – the nearby mountain hut offers shelter and invites you to linger.

Delicious food and reasonable prices

Open from May to the end of October on Sundays and public holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also open individually by appointment and rental upon request.

The local association hut is run by the Palatinate Forest Association and is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. all year round. In the hut you can fortify yourself with a snack, sausage and various soups and cakes. You can also get drinks here.
