The rock pond in the Gaisbach Valley was created in the late 1830s. At the initiative and direction of Ernzen pastor Philipp Meyer, the villagers transformed a natural rock formation into the pond. At that time, severe poverty prevailed among the people of the Eifel region. The pastor hired workers from the Ernzen population to develop the gorge and paid their wages out of his own pocket. The pond uses a hydraulic ram to supply water. Since 1979, the municipality of Ernzen, as owner, has maintained and cared for the pond.

From the free parking lot above, it's about a 5-10 minute walk. The first large building is the Café am See (Lakeside Café), with a very large covered patio and walkable stone blocks in the lake.

A quiet, almost mystical place deep in the forest: The dark pond is nestled between tall trees and overhanging branches, its surface covered with delicate plants. Barely a sound penetrates here, only the gentle rustling of the forest. 💡 Tip: Ideal for a short break – just sit down, breathe deeply, and take in the green reflection of nature.

Small well signposted and comfortable path to Lac de Echternach. Also well signposted as a circular route. Very clean.

A small pond in the middle of rock faces with niches and caves, fed by the water of a spring and surrounded by terraces, pools, stairs and bridges. Turn a crank and the story of the pond is told.

Very beautiful pond in the middle of the rocks...just gorgeous...and a nice place to relax or take a break. Starting point for the Südeifel Nature Park hiking trail 53.

The playground nearby is particularly suitable for wheelchair users. Absolutely great.

The interesting Felsenweiher is located near the sports field, somewhat hidden on the outskirts of Ernzen. A visit is highly recommended. A hiking car park is available.
