France is just across the Rhine. The Vosges Mountains can be clearly seen in the background if visibility is good enough.

Landeck Castle, also called Schadelandeck, is the ruin of a spur castle at 285 m above sea level. NN on a limestone rock in the village of the same name, Landeck, a district of Teningen, north of the town of Emmendingen in the Emmendingen district in Baden-Württemberg. The ruin is one of the few well-preserved ruins in the Breisgau. The time of origin of the upper and lower castle can be dated to around 1269. In 1260, "Dietrich, the Vogt von Landecke", a follower of the lords of Geroldseck, was mentioned in a document.

The Nirlinsberg is a long tongue of mountain that protrudes far into the valley to the north and drops very steeply to the north, west and east. Its southern, acute-angled end is separated from the rear ridge by a neck ditch about 15 m wide. There is no sign of an assumed wall in the area, the area was leveled for the planting of vines. The area separated by the ditch measures approx. 140 m in length and 25 m at the widest point. The terrain is graded to the north in several flat terraces. In front of the northern tip, in front of the steep slope towards the valley, is a wide, roughly triangular terrace, which is lower but was probably included in the fortifications. Halfway up the artificially steep (excavated) northern slope, a wide berm can be seen all around. In contrast, the eastern slope appears completely changed by later planted terraced vines. The construction time of the plant is not clear. More recent inspections provided new approaches through reading finds here. However, it is still unclear whether it was a refuge (only a temporary retreat (escape castle?) or a permanently inhabited seat of power. Due to the spatial proximity to the early medieval Altenkenzingen and the Carolingian sherd, construction and use in the 8th-10th Century very likely. The Nirlinsberg would thus belong to the group of early forms of medieval castles. Limberg Castle is a historic castle complex in the district of Emmendingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The castle was built in the 12th century and served as a residence and defensive structure. The castle was owned by various noble families, including the Lords of Habsburg, those of Wartenberg and the Margraves of Baden. The castle complex consists of a keep, a palace, a gatehouse and a curtain wall. The keep is the oldest building in the complex and dates back to the 12th century. The Palas was built in the 15th century and served as a residence. The gatehouse was added in the 16th century and is decorated with a relief of the Baden coat of arms. Limberg Castle has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. The last destruction took place in the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century. The castle remained a ruin until the 19th century and was only restored in the 20th century. Today, Limberg Castle is an important historical monument and a popular tourist destination. Visitors can tour the castle and experience the history and architecture of the complex up close. Overall, Limberg Castle is an important testimony to the history and architecture of the Emmendingen region. It is an important part of cultural heritage and a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
