You pass by it when you drive to Kirnburg, a nice spot for a short break 😁

Located directly on the banks of the Rhine, this simple shelter offers hikers and cyclists a welcome place to rest. From here, you have a magnificent view of the wide river and the surrounding floodplain. The shelter provides protection from rain or sun and is an ideal spot to enjoy the tranquility of nature. Important note: There is no garbage collection here – please take your rubbish with you to help keep the nature reserve clean.

Magnificent views of the entire Kaiserstuhl from the northwest as well as the towns in front of it on the Kaiserstuhl and parts of the Black Forest behind it. There are also views to the south of the Rhine and the Rhine plain as well as the Vosges mountain range. In the foreground, interesting views of the volcanic rocks and rock faces of the southern Limberg with the former quarry with the remains of the Old Limburg on it. There are a number of interesting explanations on the boards (direction and distance of numerous towns and mountains in the Kaiserstuhl; map with sites of old settlements in and around the Kaiserstuhl). A shelter with a table and benches invites you to rest. Since 2021, a sculpture by the sculptor Hubert Lang from Riegel can also be admired: The hippocampus (horse fish) is an ancient hybrid creature from the entourage of the Roman sea god Neptune. This is intended to draw attention to the Roman history of the region and the nearby Rhine.

A popular place for hikers to rest. From here you can also hike to Kirnburg or towards Kirnhalde.

The Wilhelm Bühler Hut is generally known as the Vogtskreuz. The actual cross is located a little way behind the hut.
