"A temple dedicated to free nature" ...the Druid Temple, as the Monopteros is also called, is not dedicated to any deity, but to nature alone. ...the Monopteros was the first decorative building in the grove. In the spring of 1804... the round temple was moved to its current location at Steinwöhrlein; previously it had stood in the garden of Seehof Castle. ...its appearance has changed over time. ...the most serious intervention, however, took place in 1973 with the construction of the Hain Bridge. It's already quite drafty under the roof of the shelter. Who wants to rest here? It was planned to be so cozy: walls made of barky spruce trunks, wooden benches inside - and everything was soft and windproof stuffed with moss. However, nothing came of it. When the old bark arbor fell into disrepair in 1851, the city wanted a solid shelter that would stand the test of time. And so now massive stone pillars carry the slate roof - after all, there is protection from the rain.

In autumn 2020 the Druid Temple got new stone benches and they still look as if they have always been there. In fact, the replicas are based on a historical model from the Seehof Palace garden, where the Monopteros, popularly known as the “Druid Temple”, from 1803 once stood.
