The villa, built in 1914, was built on a fortification of the railway bridge. The Ludwig and Agnes Schmidt family lived here until 1944, and from 1945 to 1992 it housed the French military administration. The city of Kehl became the owner of the villa on the occasion of the State Horticultural Show in 2004. They renovated the building and laid out terraces around the building, and a restaurant has been located here ever since.
