This time of year is peak season for amphibians. The frog concert can be heard from far away.

At the parking lot at the Seegerteichhütte there is a "shoe washing area" - a nice idea for a small access to the nearby stream.

Pure nature on the new hiking trail "The Battle of Emsdorf"!

A beautiful, large pond - I was able to experience it with a foamy tadpole frenzy.

In winter the water lily pond doesn't look like much. But many water lilies will bloom again this year.

The ponds near Elmsdorf (!), not Emsdorf, belong to a nature conservation area near the Elmsdorfer Kreuz. The town of 'Elmsdorf' used to be located here, which was abandoned after the turmoil of the 30 and finally the 7 Years' War. The residents moved to Emsdorf (Electoral Mainz) or Erksdorf (Hessian), but kept their fields, which later often led to disputes. The deserted cemetery was used as a military cemetery for the soldiers who died in the battle near Emsdorf. There is a memorial stone there today. A stone from the Elmsdorf church was used to renew (expand) the Emsdorf church in 1748. In 1760 it served as a hospital for those wounded in the battle on July 16, 1760 in the neutral Emsdorf, which was part of the Electorate of Mainz.

The so-called Emsdorf ponds are part of a nature conservation area in which various animals and plants are protected. You can experience wonderful peace and coolness here. The path next to the ponds is part of the two hiking trails 'Battle of Emsdorf' and the 'Himmelsbergtour'. The ponds are not suitable for swimming; in the past, people often went ice skating here in the winter if the temperatures and thickness of the ice cover allowed it.

In this meadow there are around 10 ponds (depending on the water situation) of different sizes one behind the other. It's nice to see that the Emsdorf cow ponds are a NaBu protected area.
