A very nice campsite is located here on Krautsand. Just over the dike and you're already at the Elbe River and the beautiful Krautsand beach. There's also a dog beach and a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. A small children's playground and a bistro are available. A large parking area, toilet facilities, and an open-air shower are also provided.

The Nordoe Inland Dunes are now a 407-hectare nature reserve and part of the National Natural Heritage. The area is characterized by a mix of diverse habitats: open sandy areas, heathlands, and wetlands. There are both pine-covered inland dunes and scrub-like oak woodlands. The Nordoe Inland Dunes are an important refuge for rare and endangered animal and plant species. The ecosystem depends on the nutrient-poor conditions and open landscape. To maintain these conditions, the area is now managed through extensive grazing with Galloways, Highland cattle, and Exmoor ponies.

Attention! Dogs are not allowed in the biotope. We have just turned back.

On June 17th, 2024, we asked a woman and her dog for directions. We wanted to know if you could cross the bridge on the Wischhafener Süderelbe by bike. But she didn't know her way around. She was probably on vacation in Krautsand. As we continued our journey, a couple came towards us on their bikes and told us that the bridge was closed. We then rode back with them. The woman with the dog on a leash was still standing on the path and we rode past her. Last of all, my wife. The dog snapped and bit my right calf. A relatively small wound became infected and we drove to the hospital in Flensburg on June 20th, 2024, where we were treated. We were advised not to continue our journey by bike. We therefore had to end our cycling trip. Perhaps someone can provide information about the dog owner or has met her. Middle-aged woman, 45 to 50 years old, long dark hair. The wetland is located east of the municipality of Lägerdorf and is best reached via the municipality of Rethwisch. There is a 🅿️ parking lot there, which is also popular with 🛶 water hikers. A railway along the former Breitenburg shipping canal takes you to the 🌱North wetland in the municipality of Rethwisch, which is looked after and maintained by the local biotope association. Here, a 🔄 circular hiking trail invites you to enjoy nature.

A bathing lake with several bays and small beaches. Benches invite you to a picnic. Rubbish bin and emergency telephone available. Dogs are not allowed in the lake.

The campsite "Am Leuchtturm" is located directly on the Elbe dike. From there you can watch the shipping traffic on the Elbe to and from Hamburg.

starting point. The area or rather the display boards etc. will probably no longer be maintained. But that is also not necessary. The area is beautiful for both short and long walks.
