The park is very attractive, there are great old trees and the plantings are beautiful!

Unfortunately, the castle prison is closed this year due to a change of tenants and renovations, but there is a great special exhibition about Dutch tiles in the museum (Sat/Sun 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.)!

The inviting Seepark Barmstedt, located on the Rantzauer See, connects the castle island, which is well worth seeing, with the outdoor pool. A short walk away from the main path is worthwhile, especially when the rhododendrons are in bloom. The Hotel & Gästehaus Seegarten offers lunch, coffee & cake as well as German & Italian dishes in its bistro-café-restaurant.

The Danish King Christian IV had the port of the city of Glückstadt built in 1619/20 at the mouth of the Rhins and the Elbe. The port and city were built primarily for strategic reasons. Glückstadt was an important naval base until 1863 in order to secure Denmark's interests in the Elbe and the North Sea.

On the castle island you can admire numerous art installations or relax and linger on the hidden benches. The atmosphere is magical and if you like, you can stop by the castle prison café. It was probably never a real prison, but the officials in question had two small cells at their disposal, in which they occasionally had overnight guests until 1927.
