The outlet structure of the Löbnitz polder (Nordsachsen district) was completed today (May 12, 2022). It is an important component of the controlled polder system and is located north of Löbnitz. The structure consists of a 300-meter-long fixed overflow weir and five movable gates, known as sluices, with a total opening width of 40 meters. Normally, the sluices are closed. When the polder is flooded, the gates are only opened after the water level between the polder and the Vereinigte Mulde river has been measured. Construction of this structure began in February 2020 and cost approximately six million euros, financed by the National Flood Protection Program. Background information: During the August 2002 floods, the Vereinigte Mulde river experienced severe flooding. This revealed that the existing flood control structures near the river were causing high flow velocities and discharge depths. The dikes were overtopped and breached in several places. The Löbnitz polder now provides the Vereinigte Mulde river with the necessary floodplains. Construction of the polder has been underway since 2011. The controlled flood protection system covers an area of approximately 1,400 hectares and can hold around 15 million cubic meters of water. Floodwaters can also be channeled through the polder to reduce the flow velocity and thus prevent dike breaches and erosion. For this purpose, the existing dikes are being repaired to their current level of protection and will form the future polder dike. The Schachtbaude was opened in 1975 on the site of the former Muldenstein open-cast mine. In the style of a mountain hut, it is designed entirely in wood and immediately exudes comfort. In the summer months, meals are also served on the terrace. From inside and outside, guests have a wide view of the Mulde reservoir. The restaurant is dedicated to Dutch and German cuisine. As the name suggests, the speciality here is Pannenkoek in a wide variety of variations. The Schachtbaude "Pannenkoek" is the ideal place to take a culinary break after a hike or bike ride in the Dübener Heide.

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0099 is 31.49 hectares in size. It is surrounded by the “Dübener Heide” landscape protection area. The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961 (date of regulation: March 30, 1961). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Wittenberg district. The nature reserve is located in the Dübener Heide Nature Park between Gräfenhainichen and Bad Schmiedeberg. It protects a quail wheat, sessile oak and beech forest on a compressional moraine in the Düben Heath. The deciduous forest, which has a high proportion of old wood, is largely surrounded by pine forests. The shrub layer is only slightly developed. Young hornbeam, birch and pine trees are growing in clear areas. The herb layer is often formed by whitish grove bushes, blueberries, raspberries, bracken, forest violets, common hawkweed and, in some cases, forest bedstraw, pear greens and small wintergreens. In addition, in depression locations there are woodruff, single-flowered pearl grass, forest twigs and giant fescue as well as various species of large mushrooms. Forest horsetail, angle sedge and, in some cases, alpine witchweed grow in moist spring swamps. Special floristic features include mountain hard hay, cassava vetch and small periwinkle. The nature reserve is a habitat, among other things. of black woodpecker, gray woodpecker, stock dove, woodcock and tawny owl. The common raven has been detected again since 1975.
