A very nice campsite is located here on Krautsand. Just over the dike and you're already at the Elbe River and the beautiful Krautsand beach. There's also a dog beach and a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. A small children's playground and a bistro are available. A large parking area, toilet facilities, and an open-air shower are also provided.

The Balksee lake is located in the heart of the "Balksee und Randmoore/Basmoor und Nordahner Holz" nature reserve, a virtually untouched moorland and geestrand lake area. Especially from the top, the tower offers unobstructed views over the lake, ideal for birdwatching. With a bit of luck, you might even spot sea eagles and numerous other water birds. The tower is only about 150 meters from the parking lot and is easily accessible by bike or on foot. Inside, you'll find a hut with tables and benches, perfect for a short break and picnic in the great outdoors.

The former clay pit used for brick production in Hemmoor is now leased to a fishing club. Luckily, you can use the circular trail. Keep your dog on a leash, pick up any droppings, and don't leave any trash behind—all good. :-)

The Dörphuus Wohlenbeck in Lamstedt is a cultural center and event venue in the region. It is run by the community “De Wohlenbecker” and regularly offers various events such as festivals and community activities. One example is the annual pond festival, which offers a variety of activities for families and children. Lamstedt, of which Wohlenbeck is a part, is a municipality in the Cuxhaven district in Lower Saxony. The region is known for its picturesque landscape and historic buildings. The municipality of Lamstedt itself consists of several districts, including Hackemühlen, Ihlbeck, Nindorf and Wohlenbeck, which were incorporated in 1972.

On June 17th, 2024, we asked a woman and her dog for directions. We wanted to know if you could cross the bridge on the Wischhafener Süderelbe by bike. But she didn't know her way around. She was probably on vacation in Krautsand. As we continued our journey, a couple came towards us on their bikes and told us that the bridge was closed. We then rode back with them. The woman with the dog on a leash was still standing on the path and we rode past her. Last of all, my wife. The dog snapped and bit my right calf. A relatively small wound became infected and we drove to the hospital in Flensburg on June 20th, 2024, where we were treated. We were advised not to continue our journey by bike. We therefore had to end our cycling trip. Perhaps someone can provide information about the dog owner or has met her. Middle-aged woman, 45 to 50 years old, long dark hair. Dog shoulder height approx. 50 cm, long, mottled black, brown, beige hair.

The clay lake, this is where clay was mined for the former cement factory. After mining ended, the pit filled with groundwater. Today it is a leased water for anglers.

This route is also worth walking...

You can't go there by bike, but you can walk. The area belongs to the fishing club.
