Schnepfenbrünnle has been a popular destination for Heldburg residents for many decades, and the new grilling area further enhances its appeal. Such dedication deserves respect.

This place was formerly called Grießberg or Greisberg. The name refers to the natural soil composition of sand, gravelly sand, and shell limestone scree. In Middle High German, it was referred to as "griez." It wasn't until the 19th century, as part of romanticizing the area and promoting tourism, that it received the name Gerichtsberg (Court Hill). During this time, a movement formed in Heldburg to beautify the town and its surrounding areas, aiming to develop Heldburg as a summer resort. To this end, a beautification society and a grove association were founded. The town's street names were given historical references, and recreational areas like Gerichtsberg were created. The Kuhsee Poppenhausen lake is easily accessible by bike. Here you'll find a beautifully landscaped rest area with a hut and barbecue area. A truly beautiful spot surrounded by nature.

Back then, lakes used as watering holes for animals were commonly referred to as "Schafsee" or "Kuhsee." There's even a sheep bath in the Hassberge Mountains. The name comes from the fact that sheep were driven through the water there to remove vermin from their fur.
