Weißfichtensee If you are looking for a little cooling off on hot summer days, away from the hustle and bustle of the outdoor pools, Weißfichtensee is the right place for you. Created by the Haßberge Nature Park, the facility on the edge of the forest has been in existence since the early 1970s. Around the small bathing lake there are small seating areas and lawns that invite you to rest and relax. The local recreation area also includes a natural stream, a spring stone with a pool, two shelters, a willow tunnel and a fireplace. But there is also a lot on offer for children in addition to bathing fun. In the immediate vicinity of the lake there is a playground with a seesaw and swings, a circular walkway and a cable car. You can reach Weißfichtensee from Ebern via the state road towards Haßfurt. In Gemünd turn left towards Welkendorf. At the exit of Welkendorf then turn left again and after about 1 km you will have arrived at the facility. In summer you can find numerous butterflies on the floodplain meadows. There are also rarer species such as the dark-breasted bluebird, whose caterpillars develop in ant nests. The “Mainaue bei Augsfeld” nature reserve is an important European breeding area for native bird species and a resting area for migratory birds. Rare and typical floodplain habitats and animal species of European importance are also still widespread in the area. Natural, nutrient-rich lakes have formed in the area of former river loops, which were separated by the dynamics of the river. But such contrasting habitats as fens and dry sandy grasslands can also be found alongside riparian forests and meadows. Bird species such as the sandpiper, little ringed plover and the great egret feel at home in this varied area. An adventure trail enables ideal observation of this rich bird world.
