A Franconian Lourdes © Anja Legge The Käppele chapel on Zeiler Kapellenberg (Zeiler Chapel Hill) is often referred to as the "Franconian Lourdes." The pilgrimage chapel was designed entirely in the style of French cathedrals, and pilgrims will even find a miniature replica of the Lourdes Grotto, which is visited by immense numbers of pilgrims every year. The grotto, modeled after the French Lourdes, and the monumental-looking mountain chapel were built in 1883 and 1897, respectively, on the initiative of Father Karl-Josef Link. Since then, the site has been a frequently and regularly visited pilgrimage destination in the eastern part of the Franconian Marian Way. Furthermore, the Zeiler Käppele is a special place of prayer for those considering vocations to the priesthood.
