A really beautiful corner there at the Möhnesee. Lots of space for leisure activities, whether hiking, biking or water sports. Everyone can be happy there. And if not, there are enough restaurants and cafés around the lake. 😜😁

The Hevearm and Hevesee nature reserve to the south is 320 hectares in size and serves to protect nationally important biotopes as well as rare plant and animal species. From August to April, tens of thousands of waterfowl come here every year, sometimes staying for months. They make the Möhnesee a bird sanctuary of international importance, here the densely wooded nature reserves dominate.

The Möhnesee is one of the oldest dams in Germany. The 1908-1913 quarry stone barrier wall is a monument and the main attraction of the Möhnesee. The dam wall is 650 meters long and 30 meters at its highest point. The southern half of the Möhnesee is completely surrounded by the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. The varied and extensive forest area is ideal for relaxing walks and long hikes. The circular route around the lake is great, you should plan a tour during the week, it's just too crowded at the weekend.

The water from the lake is used to wash the stones in the nearby Hönnetal limestone works. The washed-out sediments are washed back into the lake and settle there. The lake in the quarry owes its name to the intense color of the water: The Blue Lagoon. It is 80 meters deep and has a water temperature of 8 degrees.

Easy parking, nice interesting path with a good view of the limestone quarry. The observation tower is also worthwhile. Here you can see more than 40 km in good visibility. A board on the strand helps for orientation.
