Beautiful shady cycle path

Currently (August 2024) the Donnerschlucht is closed. The rain has washed away the stream banks.

There are no signs or signs blocking the path in the valley. Suddenly you find yourself in front of a barrier tape. However, the obstacle can be easily overcome by carrying the bike.

Located directly on the B95 - Turracher Straße and only approx. 700 meters south of the B97 - Murauer Bundesstraße junction (junction GH Steinerwirt) in the direction of Turracherhöhe, there is a natural jewel that is approx. 12,000 years old: the "Hohe Steg" - a small one but very impressive gorge, which owes its uniqueness to the meltwater masses. Until now, the gorge could only be admired from the old federal road or from the wooden footbridge built above it. Since July 26, 2019, with the official opening of the first via ferrata in the Murau district, the opportunity has been created to marvel at this precious natural monument from a completely different perspective. Some of the via ferrata is also suitable for beginners, but some variants are already very demanding. For alpine dangers such as thunderstorms, floods, loose rock, etc. always pay attention! Should a salvage become necessary due to self-inflicted errors or incorrect self-assessment, salvage costs must be expected.
