The castle is prominently situated on a rock on the right bank of the Danube, above the municipality of Persenbeug-Gottsdorf, at the transition from the Strudengau to the Nibelungengau.

It is very interesting to watch the ships in the lock from the bridge. It takes a while, but the opportunity is good. The lock operation is fascinating to watch. Here you can watch how large cargo ships and river cruise ships pass through the lock and overcome the difference in height of the Danube. The Ybbs-Persenbeug power station is not only the oldest Danube power station in Austria, but also one of the most impressive technical structures along the Danube. Together with the lock system, it is an important landmark for the region and a popular destination for bicycle tours and technology enthusiasts. The power station was built between 1954 and 1959 and was the first Danube power station in Austria. There is a visitor center that offers insights into how the power station works and its history. The power station is located directly on the Danube cycle path, which runs along both banks. The stretch between Ybbs and Persenbeug is particularly attractive, offering a mixture of nature and technology along the Danube.

A very beautiful view and a beautiful view of the castle! It looks imposing and magnificent, so close and above the Danube. Beautiful! Just take a short break and take in the perspective. The first historical mention of the castle dates back to 907. The Bavarian Sieghart, Count of Sempt and Ebersberg, took possession of "Bösenberg" and fortified it. Further information about Persenbeug Castle can be found at: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Persenbeug

The first historical mention of the castle can be found in the year 907. The Bavarian Sieghart, Count of Sempt and Ebersberg, took possession of "Bösenberg" and fortified it. Anno 1045, the Sempt-Ebersberger family died out with the death of Adalberos II on March 27, 1045. On May 27, the widow organized a solemn inheritance settlement at the castle, at which King Heinrich III. was present. Then the floor of the knight's hall collapsed due to overload, so that the whole company fell; the king escaped with minor injuries; Bishop Bruno of Würzburg and Abbot Altmann of Ebersberg lost their lives; Richlind, the widow of Adalbero II, the last Ebersberger, is also said to have died. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands many times. It was owned by the Habsburgs until 1593. It was then sold to the Hoyo family, who expanded the castle into its current form. On December 3, 1800, Emperor Franz I of Austria bought the castle and the Persenbiege estate as free private property. At approximately the same time, the Gutenbrunn estate also became the property of Franz I, which was also incorporated into his private fund. Furthermore, Rorregg[1] Castle in Yspertal is still part of the Persenbieger estate today. Through several inheritances, the dominions of Persenbeug and Gutenbrunn came into the possession of Emperor Franz Joseph I, who passed them on to his daughter Marie Valerie in 1916. On August 17, 1887, the last Emperor of Austria, Charles I, was born at Persenbieg Castle. Marie Valerie married Archduke Franz Salvator of Austria-Tuscany (1866–1939) in 1890. Her children, including Hubert Salvator Habsburg-Lorraine, followed as owners of Persenbeug Castle and Rorregg Castle, as well as Wallsee Castle and the Imperial Villa in Bad Ischl. Today the castle is owned by their descendants from the Habsburg-Lothringen and Waldburg-Zeil families (Wikipedia).

A comprehensive restoration took place in 1994. Since then, the castle has mainly consisted of apartments and business premises. Since 1983, a side wing of the city's Protestant community has served as a religious center. The prehistoric collection of the city museum is housed in another side building. Today the market castle and the castle park are the heart of the city center.

In 1241, the area north of the Erlaufzwiesel came into the possession of the diocese of Passau, and on the left bank of the Erlauf in the course of the 13th century, the settlement of Wieselburg was built around a large square with a manor as the administrative center of the Passau people. By the 15th century at the latest, the castle-like building and its rule passed into secular hands. After frequent changes of ownership, Emperor Franz I acquired the castle in 1823 and had it redesigned in the Josephine style and the castle park built based on French models. After the Habsburgs were expropriated by the Republic of Austria in 1919, the castle remained in federal ownership until it was purchased by the city in 1976 in order to use it for various functions today. It houses the Museum of Prehistory and Early History, a chapel, a few shops and several apartments. Today it forms the core of the city with the castle park.

9月 5, 2022, Schloss Weinzierl
Originally, Schloss Weinzierl was a medieval manor, which was expanded in the 18th century by Johann Carl Weber von Fürnberg in the Baroque style and thus still characterizes the complex today. A prominent servant of the lords of the castle was the then unknown composer Joseph Haydn, who worked here around 1755 or 1759. At the end of the 18th century, Weinzierl Castle came into the possession of the Imperial Habsburgs. In 1883 the castle was given to the "Kaiser Franz Joseph Asylum Association" and they set up a home for orphans there. After this use was more or less discontinued after the First World War, the Francisco Josephinum moved to Weinzierl Castle in 1934. Weinzierl Castle was completely renovated from 2009 to 2011 and now serves as the administrative headquarters of the teaching and research institute and as a venue for concerts, conferences, receptions, weddings, etc.
