Until the lake was completely fenced in, this place was a beautiful place, especially in the evenings, with a lovely holiday vibe. Now it's more like an enclosure.

Archduke Leopold Ludwig inherited the property in 1854. Hernstein Castle owes its current appearance to him. He spent 28 years rebuilding and expanding the castle according to plans by Theophil Hansen, who is also the architect of the Parliament in Vienna. 01/01/2023 - The Knollteich at Maria-Theresienplatz has become more and more muddy over the last few decades. The restoration began in 2005 - the result is impressive. The Knollteich was completely repaired by HSV Fishing and Casting in 2005. The ongoing flow of water from the Kehrbach (Schwarza) allows the stocking of trout. The "Achtersee" - also called "Achterlacke" - is a small gravel lake in the west of WN. It got its name from its shape, which it got from the merging of "Chrysanthemum Lake" and "Begonia Lake" and which is reminiscent of the number 8. Implementation as a bathing lake began in 2014 and the area was expanded into an urban recreation area. This was followed by the opening of the "Himmelblau" beach club with adjacent beach volleyball court and playground.

The Pioneer Pond is located in the middle of the Academy Park. The inflow comes from a small channel that branches off from the Mühlbach. It gets its name from its former purpose: pioneer technical training. Today the Pioneer Pond is stocked with fish and is a breeding ground for wild ducks and other water birds. Please note: Cycling is only permitted on the signposted paths on the Academy grounds. Occasional reprimands from military personnel!
