A beautiful castle between Klaffenau and Hartberg. While not in its best condition, in my opinion it has lost little to none of its imposing appearance. Although a sign by the roadside prohibits entry, taking photographs is perfectly acceptable.

This offers a beautiful, expansive view. It's a good spot for photos.

Castle Neudau The original moated castle consists of the outer bailey with a mighty round tower, the gate wing and the south wing, the three-storey residential castle (closed four-wing building around an inner courtyard) and the east wing with the chapel and the entrance. The castle, first mentioned in 1371, dates in its present form from the late 19th century (in the style of the second baroque). Parts of the interior with remarkable ovens from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved. In the park there is a small theater building from the early 18th century. The owners of the castle were the Neubers, from 1500 the Polheim, 1571 - 1706 the Rottal family. Today's owner Franz Karl Kottulinsky. The castle is very well preserved. Neudau received its current facade about 130 years ago.

A strange shape of the terrain draws attention to a mysterious, unfinished castle. A round plateau with a diameter of 55m, which is surrounded by a wall, forms a ring wall system. Usually a tower was erected in the middle of such "local mountains" - but this structure was never completed. I stopped by here on my tour. But it seems like a highlight. Do I have to explore more closely the next day.

The small aristocratic seat was built as a moated castle by Hans Goldschan around 1560. The Perner and Grueber families and Balthasar von Klaffenau belonged to the later owners. When the Haiducken ravaged eastern Styria in 1605, Klaffenau was also burned down. Two years later, its owner at the time, Balthasar Wilhelm zu Klaffenau, sold it to Vorau Abbey. This allowed the ruin to be rebuilt. New looting and pillage by enemy incursions from the east occurred in 1672, 1683, 1704 and 1709. In 1725 the monastery had the facility expanded by another commercial and residential wing and by building a large bulk box. Klaffenau Castle is now privately owned.
