The lake looks absolutely beautiful at any time of the year.

The lower Trauntal between Gmunden and Wels is designated as a bird sanctuary of European importance. The river itself, the alluvial forests along its banks and the adjoining cultural landscape are breeding areas and habitats for numerous species that have now become rare.

The Schacherteiche are a great area to go for a walk and relax. Be it spring, summer, autumn or winter. If the Schacherteich are frozen over in winter, you can go curling or go ice skating.

The Schacher ponds and their surroundings belonged to the European protected area "Untere Traun". They are of national importance as resting, transit and winter quarters, especially for ducks. Teal, Garganey, Gadwall and Pochard have significant populations here nationwide. The ponds together have a water surface of approx. 15 ha.

There are several options in the nature reserve to make the hike either shorter or longer. The only drawback, there is only seating right by the ponds, otherwise it is advisable to take a mat with you to rest on a tree stump or in the meadow, lg Crawallo
