This characteristic tourist complex offers hospitality and catering. At the entrance there is also a shop selling cheeses and local artisan products. To stay overnight they have small wooden huts available with a wood-burning fireplace in the entrance patio, truly unique and a healthy touch to dry your bones!

You can camp at the lodge and enjoy the breakfast buffet at the lodge. A welcome opportunity to warm up after the cold nights. It is only possible to warm up in very few places in the Andes.

It went easier than expected. The air is thin up here but doable.

This shelter is 4864 steps closer to the moon - for us Europeans - an astonishing height. Cozy inside, it also defies the adverse conditions you'll find outside on your way to the glacier (or the summit). No alcohol is served, there is a highly concentrated cocoa-flavoured sugar solution for refreshment. They like it sweet in the south. No wonder our guide preferred a hearty soup, which is served here as if you were somewhere in the lowlands.

In inhospitable surroundings, the modest hut is a welcome refuge. It protects against rain and thanks to the well-equipped and permanently catered kitchen (two people are always up here for 8 days), you can live with the somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere.
