Debara Wewa is a traditional reservoir (wewa) in southern Sri Lanka, near Tissamaharama. The lake is part of the ancient irrigation system that has been used since ancient times to water rice paddies and farmland. The lake plays an important role in daily village life: farmers use the water for irrigation, locals fish there on a small scale, children play along the banks, and in the morning and at sunset, there is a peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere. Thanks to its open water, Debara Wewa also attracts birds and other wildlife, making it a wonderful spot for nature lovers and travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Not a tourist hotspot, but rather pure and local—ideal for a short, peaceful stop during a hike or bike ride.

In Sri Lanka, there are many inland freshwater reservoirs, which they call 'tanks'. This road is a particularly scenic one, taking you right alongside Kandamala Tank, where you can see lots of bird life from herons and egrets to pelicans! Savour the views on this smooth tarmac.

Kandy is a diverse and interesting city. Temple, lake and the nearby fauna and flora.

Anytime again, the landscape is fantastic and maybe a monitor lizard will cross your path.

A small oasis in the city of Kandy, which is completely congested by traffic. Unfortunately, the lake can still be circumnavigated without traffic. The most beautiful section begins at the Qeens Hotel, past the Zahn Temple.
