Beautiful place, great view 🤩

Impressive place

It’s the highest and the most impressive exposure in Lithuania. Its height reaches 65 metres and its width is 260 metres. This unique geological object was declared a nature monument in 1974. Today, the exposure is protected as part of the Pavilniai Regional Park, the Pūčkoriai Nature Reserve. Pūčkoriai and its surroundings are the pride of the Pavilniai Regional Park, as well as its most famous and visited object. A magnificent panorama can be viewed from the exposure: the winding Vilnia River, the hills and forests of Pavilniai Regional Park, the Pūčkoriai manor, and a former cannon foundry. A little further down are the remains of the old dam of the Belmontas Mill.

The observation deck also has a camping area that is large enough to accommodate several groups of friends at the same time, as well as a few individual benches for solo travelers to stop and rest. There is a fireplace. There is also a fun running circle for people (like hamsters :)), some information boards and a photo frame.

Mergakalnis outcrop is the highest outcrop near the Kaunas lagoon (42 m high). It offers a wide view. You can see Paukščiai sala, Kruonis HAE. One of the submissions says that women of loose behavior were thrown from this cliff. Before being thrown, they were put into barrels, nailed with nails, or into sacks, along with rabid cats.

This staircase, which leads to a hill, is not only a practical element, but also an architectural highlight that enriches the path to viewing the Velnio duobė. As I climbed the stairs, I felt like I was penetrating the mysteries of the earth. With every step I took, I was offered a new perspective on the impressive geological formation. The staircase, artfully integrated into the natural landscape, almost looked like a portal into another world. Once at the top, the view of the Velnio duobė was breathtaking. The pit itself, with a diameter of 60 to 65 meters and a depth of 30 to 40 meters, is an impressive natural phenomenon. The sight of the deep hole covered with a layer of peat was a moment of wonder and admiration for the forces of nature. The stairs allowed me to view the pit from different perspectives and fully appreciate its size and depth. It added a physical and symbolic dimension to the experience, as if I were traveling through time and the mysteries of the earth.

Probably the main highlight of the walk. You can see the river below, and about an hour later, you are able to look up at the viewpoint from the bottom, which is also a great view.

Definitely one of the TOP-10 places to visit in Lithuania.
