フォルヒテンシュタイン城は、中世の城として、シュタイアーマルク州ノイマルクトの市場の城壁の北西隅に、東のゼータール・アルプスと西のグレベンツェンに挟まれた高台に位置しています。 ノイマルクトのフォルヒテンシュタイン城の名前は、古高ドイツ語の「forhten」（恐れる）とシュタインに由来すると言われています。 古くから、城の領地の経済的基盤は、関税収入の徴収と関税権の利用でした。 1956年、フォルヒテンシュタイン城は欧州連邦主義運動によって賃借されました。以来、この城は国際的な交流の場、アイデアのワークショップ、そして超党派的な欧州連邦主義と欧州統合の促進のための教育センターとなっています。 「この城が、文字通りの意味でも比喩的な意味でも、欧州の思想の要塞となりますように！」という考えのもと、城は2018年まで運営されていました。2018年、城は前所有者であるEFB Steiermarkから、象徴的な金額でEYFON財団（European Youth Forum Neumarkt）に移管されました。 フォルヒテンシュタイン城は、核となる部分に北西にある4階建ての塔状の家があります。塔状の家には、防御壁と他の建物が細長い長方形に接続されています。南東には、「市壁」と接続された建物があります。

Remains of Grünfels Castle. Unfortunately, the castle itself cannot be visited. A viewing platform has been set up at the Hunger Tower, from which you have a great view of the city of Murau. The castle was originally called "Lubathein" and was probably built at the same time as Murau under Ulrich I von Liechtenstein. In 1269 it was destroyed by King Ottokar of Bohemia. Otto II of Liechtenstein had it rebuilt in the 14th century. The keep, the residential building, the remains of the fortifications with the hunger tower and the moat have been preserved to this day.

The castle is the symbol of Murau. Today, the castle itself houses, among other things, the Princely Schwarzenberg forest administration, the castle museum and the Schwarzenberg archive. In the castle museum you get an impression of life in the castle, the history of the family and their rule. The chapel, the dungeon, the old kitchen, the cat hall and the knight's hall are particularly worth seeing. Another highlight is the princely Gobelins collection with artistically embroidered and decorated tapestries.
