Steyr's Old Town is one of Austria's most atmospheric historic city centers. Situated at the confluence of the Enns and Steyr rivers, it combines a medieval urban structure with well-preserved Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque buildings. Around the town square with its magnificent burgher houses—including the famous Bummerlhaus—narrow lanes, courtyards, and squares unfold, reflecting the former prosperity of this iron-producing city. High above, Lamberg Castle sits atop the walls of the ancient Styraburg, the city's origin. A visit to the Old Town leads past characteristic facades, across bridges to the riverbanks, and to viewpoints offering particularly evocative vistas of the historic ensemble. Overall, Steyr's Old Town presents a harmonious blend of history, architecture, and picturesque urban ambiance.

From the cycle path along the Enns River, there is a beautiful view of Steyr's old town and Lamberg Castle perched above it. Along the river, you can see the closely packed historic buildings, which rise in tiers from the riverbank, marking the transition from the river area to the old town. The castle sits on a raised position above the town and is clearly recognizable as the dominant structure from this perspective. Overall, Steyr is a worthwhile destination for a bike tour or a detour from the main route.

The castle, which stands on a conglomerate rock in front of the mouth of the Steyr, was a well-fortified fortress until the 18th century. It was probably built after the defeat of the Magyars in the Leckfeld Battle (955) to secure the eastern border of the empire. It is first mentioned in a document in a report on the synod held by the Bishop of Passau in Mistelbach near Wels in 977.

All information about the castle can be found here: http://www.burglosenstein.at/ For me it was a nice end to the morning tour. The castle is worth seeing at any time of the year. Also a goal to grill in a castle ruin. There are nice barbecue areas. The wood is available locally for a small fee. I will definitely visit them again.

Unfortunately, you cannot stay overnight at Schloss Lamberg, as it is not a hotel but a place for cultural events, weddings and private celebrations. However, there are many other hotels near Schloss Lamberg that you can book online. For example, you can choose the Hotel & Restaurant Minichmayr, which is only 0.2 km from the castle and offers a beautiful view of the old town. Or you can try the Hotel-Restaurant Christkindlwirt, which is 1.8 km from the castle and has a wellness area with sauna and steam bath. Both hotels have received good reviews from other travelers.

Lamberg Castle in Steyr in Upper Austria is located on a high terrace above the confluence of the Steyr and Enns. It arose from the Styraburg, which gave its name to the city of Steyr and the state of Styria. Today's Lamberg Castle is a baroque castle with an English landscaped park. The water-spitting dog figure represents the Lambergian heraldic animal. The garden gnomes, which were created in 1720 by the Linz sculptor Johann Baptist Wuntscher, are figures of derision for various estates, peoples, officials and fashions.
