The tunnels in the Igelskar are considered to be in danger of collapsing and should not be entered.

The climb is not technically difficult, but should not be underestimated in terms of physical condition, as it stretches quite a bit up to the summit ridge without any significant breaks for relaxation. The ascent of the stopper puller height is of course great. You should be careful not to carry a backpack that is too bulky. The views down to the Wiener Neustädter Hütte, which is getting smaller and smaller, are magnificent.

The tour is worthwhile for all nature lovers with a certain level of basic fitness (1,700 m altitude difference), appropriate equipment (advisable hiking poles, via ferrata set with helmet) and sure-footedness. Pure ascent time from the Ehrwald valley station approx. 5 1/2 hours. At the top of the summit between 30 and 40 minutes during the week for the summit photo. Food and drinks are only served until 3 p.m. at the Münchner Haus on the Zugspitze. Mountaineer meal with DAV ID. Last descent by train towards Ehrwald 4:40 p.m. Single train ticket costs 33 euros.

On the way to the Karröster Alm, you will pass small caves on the wooded mountain slope of the Tschirgant. Don't forget the flashlight!

The Stopselzieher is a very beautiful and rather easy via ferrata, experienced mountaineers do not actually need a via ferrata set. A helmet would still be recommended, as stones can always be kicked off by preceding them. Depending on the weather, the rock can sometimes be damp, as meltwater tends to run through the caves into the valley. The climb is highly recommended and easy to do even at night with a headlamp (Siege pictures).

Via ferrata is easy to do. Because of falling rocks, it is essential to put on a helmet ⛑.

With old snow fields, the relatively easy via ferrata becomes a dangerous challenge for inexperienced climbers. Before doing so, be sure to memorize/print out the route well, there are a few nasty junctions that you might overlook or go wrong. If you want, you can split up the tour and spend the night in the Wiener Neustätter Hütte. ---Updated 04/2022 Wire rope safety devices have become partially loose, the wire ropes themselves are partially worn and "prickly" gloves are recommended. If there is a lot of snow, the ropes are usually snowed in anyway, but experienced people can climb up easily with crampons and pickaxes. --- UPDATE 07/2023 Wire ropes were probably partially repaired / renewed. good job!! Depending on the snow conditions, the path on the Zugspitzgrad is different.
