ニッダの山小屋＆キャビン・トップ20

シュトックハイムのニダー川流域自然保護区では、視線はすぐに上へと向かいます。枯れ木の梢ではコウノトリが営巣しています。数多くのコウノトリの家族がここに住処を見つけています。道端からは、その堂々とした巣をよく観察することができます。しかし、タゲリ、シギ、そしてアマガエルも、1981年に特別保護下に置かれたこの種豊富な地域を共有しています。ニダー川の流れは2005年に部分的に自然再生され、その過程で、渡り鳥の隠れ家となる広大な静水域のネットワークが作られました。

Here, where the locomotives once roared, cyclists can now take a breather and refuel. This is the Gasthaus Laubacher Wald, and yes, it's an old train station. The tracks are gone, but the charm remains – and the food is definitely not your average train station! ​You're truly sitting in the heart of the Vogelsberg Mountains, the air is fantastic, and after a few kilometers on the saddle, the Hessian specialties taste twice as good. My personal stop tip: Be sure to check out the beer garden when the sun is shining. Or take a look around inside to see if you can spot the ghost of an old conductor somewhere – I only saw wild boar, deer, and fox (which are probably the new regulars). ​Conclusion: A wonderful place for a break! Instead of changing trains, you can simply sit down, enjoy the ride, and then continue cycling, refreshed.
