The Botanical Garden of the University of Heidelberg is one of the oldest and most diverse botanical gardens in the world. It was founded in 1593 and is located on the Im Neuenheimer Feld campus. Beautiful ravine with information board

Unique ravine. Larkspur blooms here in March. Wild bees have drilled small holes in the vertical sand walls.

In the ravine you can clearly see how the path dug into the soft layer of loess - a fertile, mineral-rich soil - that was blown in from the west during the cold periods of the Ice Age. The loess on the steep walls provides a habitat for wild bees and wasps. They made the holes in the walls.
