Passed by on the way to Sněžka, not only the castle has charm, but also the path around the castle is a highlight.

BURG Kynast etc. are worth a visit, but there is a charge. You can fortify yourself in the restaurant.

The ruins of this Gothic castle stand in the forest near the village of Horní Štěpanice (across the road from Jilemnice to Benecko). The castle was founded by Johann von Waldstein at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1492 the rule was divided into the part of Štepanice (Stepanitz) and Jilemnice (Starkenbach). The Stepanice part later fell to the other branch of the Waldstein family. From then on the Štěpanice Castle was no longer used as a residence, in the 16th century it finally left its owners to their fate. From 1583 it is mentioned as deserted and the other rulers (Záruba von Hustířany, Albrecht von Waldstein, the Harrachs) did nothing to restore it. The property fell into disrepair and its walls were used as building material for the construction of the surrounding villages. Štěpanice Castle originally consisted of two parts - the upper and lower castle. A part of the castle wall including the square bastion remained of the lower castle, of the upper, difficult to access castle, only insignificant wall remnants remained.
