An underground shelter tunnel from Nazi times. It is open and accessible and you can walk through it, flashlight recommended. The tunnels probably go much further, some branches are walled up. They were built to offer patients and staff protection from artillery fire, bomb fragments and other war effects. In times of intense fighting, people could retreat into these trenches. The trenches were strategically placed so that they were easily accessible and could be reached quickly from nearby buildings.

In the forest of Prieros in the huge former restricted area between Hammer / Prieros / Streganz / Klein Köris was the deputy minister's and chief of border troops' alternate headquarters, whose regular headquarters were in Pätz. In the New Garden Potsdam, surprise plays a major role in all the smaller garden buildings. For this reason, walkers often do not even notice the building. Approaching from the south, one encounters an overgrown hill shaded by trees and shrubs. Anyone who strolls along the shore of Jungfernsee will not exactly be attracted by the inconspicuous walls made of tuff and bog iron stone (picture). In fact, a rare gem is hidden behind these walls: the shell grotto. It is one of the last preserved, independent cave architectures. The fact that the true beauty cannot be seen at first glance was exactly what was intended. The visitor was presented with an unexpectedly elaborate and colorful decoration of the interior. The walls of the central hall and the two cabinets flanking it were decorated with large mirrors, stained glass, various stones and shells. The ceilings were painted and the floors were marble. Today the interior of the shell grotto is a mixture of ruins and construction site, but the remains of the once elaborate decorations still give an idea of the former beauty.
