The Lonnerbach babbles at the bottom of the valley, although it can sometimes dry up in summer. “Lonner” originally meant Landwehr. In fact, the Bielefeld Landwehr once passed through here; this was an elaborate system of ditches and hedges built around towns or villages to protect their field borders from intruders and to prevent cattle from escaping.
