The Royal Palace of El Pardo, originally a 15th-century hunting lodge, was renovated in the 16th century and modified by the architect Sabatini in the 18th century. It is best known for having been Francisco Franco's residence during the dictatorship. Currently, the palace is the official residence for foreign heads of state visiting Spain and is open to the public as a museum. Its main attractions include the collection of tapestries based on Goya cartoons and its interior decoration.
