The photos don’t do this part of the coastline any justice. The sheer drops are impressive!

Path to falls currently closed due to a landslide. Can see the falls from a distance from the top path

Henrhyd Falls in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales, is the tallest waterfall in southern Wales with a drop of 90 feet. It lies on National Trust land, in the traditional county of Brecknockshire. The nearest settlement to it is Coelbren, on the road between Glynneath and Abercraf.

You can especially be enchanted by the legend that surrounds this crack in the rock!

8月 17, 2023, Melincourt Waterfall
Melincourt Falls (Sgwd Rhyd Yr Hesg in Welsh) seemed to be one of the unsung waterfalls in an area of South Wales known as Waterfall Country. I suspect the reason why this falls wasn’t as well known as the others was that it was not part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Actually, it was in its own reserve managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales towards the head of the Vale of Neath. So I’d imagine it kind of fell off the radar for most of the literature let alone tourist itineraries! When I saw the 80ft (24m) waterfall in person, I was quite surprised at how similar looked to the nearby Sgwd Henrhyd!! One that you can also walk behind unknown to most.

Good walking shoes and a hiking stick, easy to tumble if your old. https://youtu.be/Atw5aOeGxcU?si=TAtRZze21RnrDzyE

Definitely take a breathable waterproof jacket and water. Excellent weather all around the UK the day I hiked, but the weather can change quick the higher you climb.

Excellent hike with fantastic views once you reach the top. I hiked there with my brother Keith on the longest day of the year, June 21st 2023. Once your at the top, the views are incredible and it also has some shear drops from the edges. I wouldn't recommend taking children as it is a very hard climb even with adults, and on this day I witnessed several struggling with the climb. I'm 64 and quite fit and found it more hard than easy. On the way back we stopped at the Aberglais Inn which had excellent food and drink with lovely hosts. I was blown away with there Ale & Steak Pie-delicious. Also done 50 lengths swimming that morning before the hike, and hope to do many more. Love to everyone 💕

5月 1, 2023, Mowing Word Bay Cliffs
Compared to nearby Barafundle, few people have heard of the unusually named bay, Mowing Word. Challenging to access on foot, the safest option is to soak up the outstanding views from the cliff top. At low tide the golden sand is punctuated with fantastical rock formations. There are huge caves, a blow hole, countless rockpools and an impressive sea stack in the centre of the beach.

3月 3, 2023, Devil's Bridge and Waterfalls
To view the stunning gorge and three bridges, it costs £2 per person. There's a small free car park and a café for refreshments. The path is very narrow and consists of steep stairs. Not suitable for unfit people. It only takes 10mins to complete the short loop. The three bridges show a history of crossing the gorge through the centures. The first and lowest bridge was built by monks in 11th century. Around 1754 a second bridge (middle bridge) was built on top if the first, with ornate iron railings. In 1901 the third bridge was built, again with a modern copy of the iron original railings.

It's actually a lot quieter than the main walks around here but most definitely worth a visit. An additional point of interest is it was used as the Bat Cave in the Dark Knight Rises https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Kgpr4jIfRcQ&t=102s

11月 23, 2022, Wolf's Leap, River Irfon
Wolf's Leap is a deep pool along the River Irfon. It is accessed via a small path cut into the rock. At this point the river cuts through a narrow gorge in the rock resulting in a deeper pool, perfect for a dip! Don't forgot to bring a packed lunch!

11月 22, 2022, Huntsman's Leap
Legend has it that a huntsman urged his horse over the chasm, landed safely, then looked back and dropped dead from shock when he saw what he had jumped over. Huntsman's Leap is a narrow steep-sided inlet, formed by sea erosion along a fault line in the cliff. It offers a good reason to stick to the established path! Another reason not to wander at will is that Huntsman's Leap is on an MOD firing range and is closed to the public at certain times. Call Pembroke Visitor Centre on 01437 776499 to check if the range is open to the public. Alternatively, you can check by visiting: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/castlemartin-firing-notice--2.
