Off the main track to the left you take a narrow wooden walkway out to the hide which has great views over Heronry South Lake as well as Heronry North Lake.

Haydon Hive overlooks the southern end of Heronry South Lake. From here you can se the Cormorants roosting in the trees on the opposite bank.

I would agree with Dom. About 9 miles round the loop. Relatively challenging for an intermediate or beginner. Mixture of gravel, mud and road surfaces. Beautiful scenes of the reservoir. When hot, just expect swarms of midges in some parts of the track. Great to also have Rutland Cycling there too along with 2 coffee shops. Well worth going for the parking pass if you are considering regular visits, £50 a year.

Myriad habitats can be found at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, with beautiful lakes, riverside, meadow, reedbed, scrub and woodland. The visitor centre offers refreshments, facilities and friendly expertise. Kingfishers and nightingales are a common sight and overwintering wildfowl visit during the colder months. In spring and summer, wildflowers, dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies create a vibrant environment.

At the eastern end of the Bedford River Park is the 297-acre (120 ha) Grange Estate. Situated on the River Great Ouse's floodplain, there are many pleasant trails by little lakes and along brooks. It’s a great place to spot kingfishers. South east of the estate is the village of Willington, where you find Danish Camp, one of the few remaining water-filled moats left from the Viking Age. Today, there's an adjacent restaurant in a Norwegian log cabin. This characterful eatery is a great place to relax after a walk in the Bedford River Valley Park.

Nice route around the resevoir, which has a few inclines on the NW side.

Best done anti clockwise, which not only is naturally faster but also means you don't accidentally miss an important section easily missed going clockwise, if missed the result is hitting the main road for 1.5mile.
