Great area for a hike. If you do not want to go the full circle alternatives to walking back on the same track are a bit limited.

To build the railway here cretainly was a challenge for the engineers and builders - a lot of tunnels and slopes to overcome. In the end it looks great to see how the railway winds through this landscape.

The bit between Manton and the nature/bird watching centre appears to have been re-stoned with a very uncycle-friendly gravel. Too big piece size and not compacted down making it a bit scary for tyres less than 40mm I would say. As walkers and cyclists are only real users, it is unlikely to get better for years.

not the worlds biggest climb up the hill there but my legs felt it - take it steady

Melton Country Park offers 140 acres of open green space with wildlife lakes, footpaths trails, dog agility trails, gym equipment, children's play areas, football pitches, and a visitors centre with a cafe. Cycling is permitted on the trails and NCN Route 64 runs through the park.

If you are walking/cycling the full circuit on the track note that Barnsdale parking is £3 compared to £10 at the other car parks and the best refreshments are at the Rutland Nurseries Cafe between Manton and the Lynton reserve, or the Horse & Jockey pub in Manton who finished their refurbishment last week.
