Great country park with plenty of trails

40 acres of outstanding natural beauty, a salt-water lake and a section of the Sheppey Cycle Route

Barton’s Point is a shingle beach just east of Sheerness. It’s right next to a coastal park and has a traffic-free section of cycleway running along side it. It’s a popular spot for camper vans.

At the eastern tip of Two Tree island, you have the salt marshes and wetlands of the Leigh National Nature Reserve. Well worth the down and back for views towards Leigh, admire the array of salt marsh plant species such as golden samphire, sea purslane and the variety of wildlife including waders, wildfowl and dark-bellied brent geese.

The lake sits in Cherry Orchard Park and is situated in the stunning South Essex countryside and takes full advantage of its picturesque, undulating landscape. It combines open grassy areas with woodlands, creating a diverse habitat that supports a wide range of plant and animal species.

A little island escape full of wildlife and scenic views. Perfect for a 5km run with a mix of pathways and sand trails. The eastern section is part of Leigh National Nature Reserve, where the saltmarsh is one of the best surviving in the Thames Estuary. Keep an eye out for the rare insects and butterflies and the kestrels flying overhead.
