Redmires Reservoir is a pretty body of water nestled among pine trees and rugged moorland. The lane around the trail soon turns into the Long Causeway, a sublime gravel trail that leads over Stanage Edge and towards Hope Valley and Ladybower.

The Dale Dike overflows the reservoir of the same name and runs down the valley into Damflask Reservoir.

Damflask Reservoir is a wonderful place for relaxation and recreation. An easygoing path encircles the body of water, which is suitable for all abilities. An easy and fulfilling hike for those with little ones. An easily accessible place that is idyllic can, of course, get very busy at peak times and/or sunny days. Choose your time to explore wisely if you want some tranquillity.

Dale Dike Reservoir was built between 1859 and 1864 to power the mills downstream and to supply drinking water to Sheffield. Sadly, the day after the reservoir was filled, the dam failed – resulting in millions of gallons of water rushing into Sheffield. The disaster, known as the Great Sheffield Flood, killed 244 people and destroyed more than 5,000 properties. These days, the reservoir is an idyllic place for hiking. There are lots of paths to explore, taking you along the shoreline, into woodlands and up onto the moors.
