Ruthven Barracks is an early 18th-century infantry barracks built after the Jacobite Rising of 1715 to keep the Highlands under government control. So the castle was not visitebel in may 2022…….and now in august 2024 its still not to be visited due to repairs…….what a blame for the Scottish heritage or what may left off it!!

Perfect spot to rest a little and get a more than memorable photo :)

Inverlochy Castle was built by the ‘Red’ Comyns, lords of Badenoch and Lochaber. The Comyns dominated northern Scotland in the 1200s, and were key supporters of King John Balliol, earning the enmity of Robert the Bruce. After seizing the throne in 1306, Bruce made the destruction of the Comyns a priority, and ruthlessly set about overthrowing them. Good access to the estate moorland gravel tracks north of here. There's an excellent loop for gravel and mountain bikes that takes in Allt Scheichechan Bothy.

Neo-Gothic styled Inverary Castle pile is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Argyll. A great view from the front gate. Catch your breath as a steep climb begins a few hundred metres from here as soon as you cross the river, if you're heading for the watchtower.

Sections of the ride are steep and full of gravel, so riding uphill can be a struggle. There is a narrow path, which meets up with the main path again, which is easier to ride.

Very impressive ruins situated on a hill that is visible from far. It is open all day and entry is free. There might be some highland cows around that make for a pretty cheesy picture.
