Plenty of wildlife pictures to be taken there, with ducks and other birds

Arrive mid-morning on a crisp autumn day to wander the quaint village green with its medieval cross, duck pond, and bull-ring—perfect for photos of the limestone cottages without crowds. Grab a hearty pub lunch at The Bull’s Head, savoring local ales and farm-fresh dishes, then embark on the easy 2.4-mile walk to nearby Eyam (the “Plague Village”) for a dose of history amid rolling dales. Park at the edge of the village (limited spots), wear comfy shoes for the quiet lanes, and time your visit for late August if you can catch the colorful well dressings festival

A good place to rest, have a chat and replenish the energy for the climbs ahead.

The pond within ancient woodlands and open moorlands; a serene spot to appreciate the natural beauty of the area or take a picnic in the Summer. Birdwatchers will find ducks and herons. Photographers will be interested in the changing colors over the seasons. But as it is located near the main car park of the Longshaw Estate and easily accessible; it can get crowded, in particular at week-ends.

When the Derwent reservoir is full, the water flows out through the 'plugholes' at the southern end. A mesmerising spectacle when there's a lot of water flowing and can be enhanced by a great sunrise.

Great spot for migrating birds. Sitting on the dam wall with a cuppa whiling the time away.

Built in 1882 by the Chesterfield Union Water Works, Barbrook Reservoir (or Still as it was called then) held around 100 million gallons of water fed by the Totley Moss to supply the homes of the below valley. It was used for almost 100 years until decommissioning in the 1970s. It fell into disrepair and eventually was breached in 1999. The ‘dried’ reservoir bed is now a nature reserve and forms a peaceful oasis.

Bamford Edge consists of a set of rocks protruding from a towering hilltop in the Peak District National Park. The views from here are incomparable, feel ontop of the world as you gaze toward Ladybower Dam and the rolling countryside that surrounds it.

A beautiful place for a Peak District sunset. A short steep walk up from the parking layby but the views over Win Hill and Ladybower are worth it.

Bring ya bouldering shoes its Derbyshire grit after all

The path along the top of Ladybower Dam affords a wonderful view of the reservoir nestling in the Upper Derwent Valley. You also get a close look at the reservoir overflows (essentially giant plug holes), which draw photographers from far and wide. Ladybower was constructed between 1935-43 after the villages of Derwent and Ashopton were flooded (residents were rehomed nearby). It was officially opened by King George VI on September 24, 1945.

Now disused Victorian reservoir. Good spot for birdwatching.
