Partially reconstructed and open to the public as part of Castlefield's Roman Gardens, Mamucium is a must for history buffs. Originally founded in AD 79, the fort was mostly levelled during the Industrial Revolution to make way for infrastructure projects.

good coffee and plenty of cake options, the chocolate flapjack was good, also do sandwiches etc . eat in or outside plenty of benches with a view.

Alexandra Park is a beautiful and historic green space in Manchester. It was created in the mid-19th century and features lawns, gardens and a lake. It also has sports facilities including tennis courts and a bowling green.

Gorton Lower Reservoir was built in the early 1800s to provide water for the surrounding area. It was a supply reservoir until 1963 when it was decommissioned and became a leisure lake. Today the reservoirs are used for fishing, sailing and canoeing.

Instead of hiking north around the lake, you can also walk south of the lake. This saves a quarter mile of the Trans Pennine Trail.

Chorlton Water Park is a nature reserve that provides an essential ecosystem for local wildlife. The reserve is centred around a lake beside the River Mersey and has idyllic grasslands to explore. Open to walkers, cyclists, horse riders and anglers, it’s a green oasis on the outskirts of Manchester.
