Many places to stop and admire the Views

Lovely place for a Wild Swim after a walk in the fells, great to look back on everything you’ve walked while swimming around. It does get deep after about 20 m and can be very cold especially in February when my Wife and her Sister did it. Take a warm drink and warm clothes to get into afterwards. If you just fancy the swim the car park at Buttermere is only 1/2 mile away.

Excellent flat walk. Only one short tricky section over some rocks - probably because the water was high. Would have been no issue when water levels were lower.

Lovely stretch of road running near to the water. Chance for a bit of respite in between Newlands and Honister.

Probably the most beautiful lake in the Lake District - but don't tell anybody or it will get busy!

Buttermere circuit is a good shorter walk. We added the adjacent lake, Crummock Water to make this a 20km hike.

One of my favourite lake loops in Lakeland. Perfect for both running and walking. The tunnel adds a bit of excitement and the view across to Fleetwith Pike is my favourite.

So lovley! Visit it! It´s worth it!

A small circular walk with plenty to keep you entertained, Sourmilk Gill, Buttermere village, a rock formed tunnel, plus more.

This peaceful woodland is a lovely part of the Buttermere circuit. With surreal light shining through the trees and the lake glistening in the background, it is a magical place to hike.

As one of the few lakes in the national park that you can walk all the way round, Buttermere is well worth a visit. At 4 miles (6 km), the easy-going circuit allows you to experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Buttermere, which lies at the foot of some spectacular fells, including Wainwright's favourite, Haystacks.
