The Laurel Run Trail begins at the south end of Parker Lake and follows the shoreline to Parker Dam, before paralleling Laurel Run to the edge of the state park. From there you can take a short walk along Tyler Road to the CCC Trail for a nice loop hike back to the lake.

Moshannon Creek, a tributary of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, runs for 57.4 miles and is known for its reddish-orange water and rocks colored by iron compounds from nearby mining activities.“Often called “Red Moshannon” or “Red Mo,” this creek is known for its striking appearance—but its water is heavily polluted and not safe for drinking. Don’t confuse it with nearby Black Moshannon Creek, which does have safe, drinkable water.

The area encompassed by the Quehanna Wild Area is a wildlife haven and one of the best places in Pennsylvania to spot elk as well as dozens of local and migratory bird species. Those who explore a little deeper will also find hidden waterfalls and primitive campsites where they can spend the night alone in the wilderness.

Covering over 190,000 acres, the Moshannon State Forest offers everything outdoor adventurers could ask for. Visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, hunting and more. Also, the area is a spectacular place to visit during the fall color season.

In addition to serving as the main start and end point for hikers of the Quehanna Trail, Parker Dam State Park also offers a whole host of activities for day use and overnight visitors. The 968-acre park has hiking and mountain biking trails, a beautiful lake, campground, rustic cabins, and access to the 190,000 acre Moshannon State Forest.
